DESCRIPTION:Alter Theatre is now taking applications for their 3rd Annual Free Native Youth Summer Sleepaway Acting Camp! \nThe camp will be held on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland\, Oregon July 31st-Aug. 4th\, 2023. \nThis free\, one of a kind\, five day\, four night sleep away camp for Native American students in grades 7-12 is led by professional Native artists and designed for Native youth. \nStudents will explore theater games\, character work\, improv and scene work\, while also participating in college prep workshops. The workshops\, activities\, food\, and accommodations are free and they are offering a small travel stipend for each successful applicant to put towards their travel expenses. DESCRIPTION:Native Youth 25 and under are encouraged to submit to the Annual Yale Young Native Playwrights Contest. The winner will receive a developmental workshop of their play at Yale and $500 prize. For the first time since 2020\, the Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program (YIPAP) Festival will be in-person on Yale’s campus this year. Transportation and housing at Yale will be provided to the winner for the duration of the Annual YIPAP Festival (in early May 2023). \nThe playwright must be between the ages of 15 and 25 and identify as Indigenous. \nPlays must be original scripts of no more than 120 pages and no less than 50 pages (this can vary due to structure\, so feel free to email to double check eligibility) and written in standard play-script format. \nGo to website for complete information on contest and submission requirements: click here. \nWed. DESCRIPTION:The Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program (YIPAP) is excited to announce the call for submissions for the Third Annual Misty Upham Award for Young Native Actors. This award was created in memory of the acclaimed Blackfeet actress Misty Upham and honors Native actors 25 and under. \nThe winner will receive $500\, and transportation to and housing on Yale campus to be honored as part of an award ceremony at Yale in early May. They will also have the opportunity to be cast as an actor in performances in the annual YIPAP New Native Play festival. This will be the first year since the award was created that the festival will return to being held in person on the Yale campus\, and we are so excited to host our first in person honoring ceremony for this award. \nNative actors age 25 and under are invited to record themselves performing a monologue to be considered for submission. Video submissions are due Feb 28\, 2023 and will be evaluated by a team of professional theater artists. \nFor details click here.
